The Eye of the Needle

On Saturday Dad, Mike, Shasta (the Disasta) and I took a drive up into the Beartooth Mountains, near Absarokee. It was about a 70 mile round-trip and a good time was had by all.

Shasta, of course, was ready to go as soon as the word drive was mentioned. Mike actually had to put her in the car because she kept running from room to room barking. We made mental notes to spell the word d-r-i-v-e from now on.

Let's get this show on the road, already...

We call this "The Eye of the Needle", for obvious reasons. This outcropping of rocks is located near Dean, MT, population not-so-much.

Here is another needle's eye we spotted above Beehive, Montana, population less-than-Dean.

I took this shot of the mountains, about 10 miles from Nye, MT, population a-few-more-than-Dean-or-Beehive. Can you guess why these mountains are called the Beartooth's? It was rather hazy, probably from the high humidity, but I think you can still make them out fairly well.

And another adventure ends...

So pretty. We have no mountains here. Is there snow on those peaks all year long? Shasta's a pretty girl.

What georgeous land you live in. One day, it is my dream, to visit Montana. Thank you for putting my dream on the computer. It only enhances my goal.

Wonderful photos. I especially love the one of Shasta with her head on the windowsill.

Hi Laurie,
Shasta definitely has her priorities in order. She is adorable! Wow, I've never seen territory like that before. I'm glad you got out to breath. I've been thinking about you.

That dog is blessed.

You are, too.

Where you live is "inspirational" and downright gorgeous.

Clean air and breathtaking views.

You must love it there.

Thanks for the deep breaths, Laurie!

And who says Shasta doesn't know how to spell? Maybe we could use some kind of code next time.

When I see something that resembles a pretty big mountain, I think of you. Then I get jealous because you have such better and bigger mountains than me!!!

Lovely country, there, Laurie. You are fortunate to live where many of us visit!
Shasta sounds very much like my Tipper. You mention "go for a ride" and she is at the door, waiting!

I never knew Montana was so pretty. I hope you don't mind but I wanted to ask what happened with the other couple at the hospital--Bob and I think it was Shirley? He was on the respirator. I really would like to know. Thanks

Mspea, usually most of the snow melts off during the summer. I believe there are a few glaciers left in the really high country, though.

Dave, let me know if you come visit. I'll show you the sights!

Threecollie, Shasta is very photogenic, isn't she?

Caroline, I'll take photos all summer and post them as often as time permits. Thank you for thinking of me.

Mary, it is beautiful and it is home.

Mike (as in my brother Mike!!), she'd probably figure that out too. She is a smart one, after all, she trained you!

Butterfly, you could always come to visit!

Chani, it is glorious, isn't it? I am truly blessed.

KG, she starts going crazy when Mike puts on his shoes. It goes downhill from there...

Duchess, Bob passed quietly in his sleep the night before the decision was to be made to stop life support. I'm thankful that Shirley and the kids didn't have to make that decision.

Your photos are stunning! I love the big moutains, they are magnificent and awe inspiring. Montana was on my list of places to visit, thanks to your photos, I still can.

Love that Shasta!

You are so lucky to have a pet that likes to travel with you!

My dog Gracie panics in the car, and my cat Alice just yowels and throws up.

Thanks for allowing me to vicariously tag along on your adventure. Since I can’t actually give Shasta a real pet on the head, please do so and tell the lovely creature it came from me.

Shasta is a beautiful canine, for sure, and those Montana mountains are magnificent. ;-)

I can see the bear teeth coming out of the mountains in that one pic...what are they, really?

Fantastic scenery...kind of a low blow to Mike there about learning everything from Shasta, tho...:-)

Pam, I promise to take a lot more photos and post them. Feel free to edit them to your heart's content.

Thomas, if by lucky you mean she hogs the back seat and drips water all over everything...yes we are! But really, she is a joy to take with us. She LOVES adventures and they wouldn't be the same without her.

Nick, I will do that! And I promise to take more photos soon!

WW, those are rocks jutting up from the mountainside. There's a place near Red Lodge where they are even more pronounced. I'll try to get a shot of that when I'm there in July.

As for the comment about Mike...I'm just going to leave that alone. Ha!

The view out our back windows is of a wall of solid green. How I miss sweeping vistas! Such beautiful scenery. I'd be just like Shasta - my head hanging out the window - drinking in the beauty.

I love the picture of your dog looking so sweet in the car. We are thinking of going on the Beartooth highway in about a month. It looks wonderful. :)
