He Had Me at Hello

What attracts you to a member of the opposite sex? I know it’s a complicated subject, but it’s one I’ve been very interested in lately. Some of my friends say they prefer a particular eye or hair color. Others are drawn to body styles; short, tall, busty or muscular. Some people are only interested in a person with a good sense of humor or a big.....brain. Whatever their fancy, I imagine there is something deep within them that causes the attraction. I imagine, like me, they don’t have any control over it.

In my case, there are several attributes that pretty much guarantee at least my initial interest. One is the eyes and another is the thighs. I prefer a man that maintains eye contact when he talks to me (I’ve often had to say “hey, I’m up here” to my dates) and to be honest, I like a guy with nice, solid, muscular thighs. Don’t ask me why. I can’t explain because I don’t understand it myself.

But truthfully, the thing that attracts me most is the voice. There is something so sexy about a deep voice. It makes me warm and melty just thinking about it. If he’s got a rich, velvety voice, I’m all his. Sometimes the voice just “does it” for me. It hits a certain chord within me and I’m his, whether he wants me or not. It doesn’t matter what he looks like or if his personality is pleasing. All that matters is that voice. I’m a sucker for it, what can I say.

Such was the case yesterday.

It all started when I was at the convenience store. I was paying for my gas when I got the urge to clean my car. I paid the cashier for the deluxe wash and drove over to the vacuums. After ridding my car of about twenty pounds of dog hair and mud, I proceeded to the entrance of the car wash. And that my friends, is where I met Otto. It was the voice, dear friends. That damned voice did it to me.

He had me at hello.

Funny, funny gag. You really got me. Well told.

Also, your comments on my trucker cartoon really made me feel good. I work really hard on my drawings, and I know that people enjoy them, but most people just comment on the content. Thanks!

Caroline, I adore your art work. I think you are amazing. I would love to see you write children's books.

What's up with you and machines, missy? Are you trying to tell us something? Plus, what would the printer say?

now you've gotten me curious. i want to hear THE voice. :D

I'm usually attracted by a sense of humor. and if you play an instrument too then I'm a goner. My husband is a testament to this.

You had me, too! And yeah, what's going on with the love machine thing? LOL!

Seriously, starting with most important, 1.) Sense of humor, 2.) Sensitivity (in touch with his femine side) 3.) Direct eye contact, 4.) Well groomed hands and feet, 5.) Big ass biceps!

What's next the washer? The dishwasher? Get it together girl!!!

It does it to me too, but "hello" is just foreplay. When he gets to "would you like cash back?" there's no turning back.

dmmgmfm said...

KC, *sniff*, I guess I'm not really over HP (the printer), like I thought I was.

Menchie, I agree, a sense of humor is very important! Plus, common interests and the ability to talk to one another.

But, OMG girl, you should have heard Otto's voice. My girlfriend and I were both instantly smitten. It was sooooo sexy!

Mary, maybe I'm just disappointed in men? By the way, I like big biceps too!

Butterfly, of course not, although the xerox machine at work is kind of hot. ;-)

Joe, oh yeah, cash back, that would do it to me too. *sigh*

I'm not a voice woman. Truthfully, I talk so much that I can't remember hearing the voices of the last three men that I've dated.

dmmgmfm said...

Mist, maybe I'm shopping in the wrong area code, because most of the men I've known are very fond of hearing their own voices. Or maybe I'm just not very interesting.

Your last statement on this blog can't be true. NOT TRUE.

dmmgmfm said...

Mary, you are a doll! Thanks.

That was hilarious!! You got me also. Can't see Otto's thighs though can you get a picture of his legs. You are a riot.

dmmgmfm said...

Dave, I'm seeing him again next week. I'll take a picture then. ;-)

guess it's too bad I sound like Chip n Dale, eh?

dmmgmfm said...

Jock, you will note that my list included thighs. I think you've got it covered.

Bonita said...

Now, that was some good writing! I'll have to pay more attention to the little voice that tells me my computer has been updated.

dmmgmfm said...

Bonita, yes! And if you don't want "him", send him to me!

Love this story, Laurie! It's an interesting question you pose and one I have given a lot of thought to over the years. I have a strange thing for nicely shaped wrists - call me odd, but I always notice them. It seems you and I both also have a thing for younger men ...

dmmgmfm said...

Carol, wrists...I can see that. I like forearms. Muscular ones, where you can see the veins. And bottoms...lol. Okay, I like men. Period.

So you see, you really aren't odd at all.

Whoa! This had me worried. I'm thinking:It's a good thing 'He Who Does Not Do Dishes' doesn't read Laurie's blog! Then sturdy Otto emerged. LOL - Big time!

steve'swhirlyworld said...

I hope you and OTTO have magic together. I'm with you, a strong voice is important and the BRAIN is most important.

dmmgmfm said...

Cathy, you think he's hot too?

Steve, I agree, completely. It is extremely important. The other stuff is just icing...

I thought perhaps Barry White was channeling through the machine or something. LOL

It's entirely possible Chani.

Soo, he had a great voice and then he gave you money.

I can see the attraction.

dmmgmfm said...

Heartsin, and he washed my car! It just doesn't get any better than that.

ROFL Laurie!!!! You are a very humorous lady!

dmmgmfm said...

Naturewoman, I'm glad I made you smile. :)

Hmmm, seems like you're a sucker for mechanics. Or things mechanical.

:-)

LauraHinNJ said...

I was SO hoping for a *hunk* photo!

I'm a sucker for blue eyes and blonde hair myself.

dmmgmfm said...

Squirl, I'm a sucker for the voice. I don't undertand it myself, but it just "gets" me. ;-)

Laura, just for you, I'll try to find a hunk to photograph while I'm in Denver. Maybe more than one! But I still think Otto is "hot".

wd said...

LOL ... oh dear me ... yes - voices, eyes and such will do it - but as had been said before ... add a brain into the mix - irresistible!!!!

and not only that, he washed your car ... now you just need to find out if he does windows (to say nothing of laundry)! ROFL

(HUGE bear hug) ...b

dmmgmfm said...

wd, laundry would be a wonderful thing...that and dishes would have me over the top!

WithinWithout said...

Harumph! Pull the plug on him and then whatcha got left? Otto becomes Blotto!

dmmgmfm said...

WW, I never thought of it that way. I guess I better go to plan B.
