The First of the Super Secret Christmas Surprises

The plane was a bit early and we had just gotten to the airport as my son was coming down the escalator.

Here we are leaving the airport terminal. My son said he felt like a movie star because I was taking so many pictures.

We had planned to look for a new car for my son during our Christmas break. His dream vehicle was a sunset orange Honda Element. The plan was to go to the dealership and try to make a deal. The photo above was taken at the moment he figured out that the Element in the parking lot was his.

Happy boy, happy mom

Life IS good

Threecollie, He really loves it and I feel so much better knowing he has a safe, reliable vehicle.

Ginnie, It's definitely a good color for him.

Ur-spo, Can you hear the clucking from there?

Carol, I am happy to share with my blogging family. I didn't really have time to post a lengthy story, but wanted you all to know how well it worked out.

How about adopting me? :)

You are the best mom ever. Such joy in your eyes.

AC, I can only afford one child and six cats right now. Maybe in a few years?

KC, I have smiled so much in the past couple of days that my face hurts.

He is driving back to Denver tomorrow, so I imagine I will be a bit down. I won't, however, be worrying (as much) about him being on the road.

Boy, you really know how to surprise someone! Your son is a lucky guy to have you, you know. This is a Christmas celebration he'll NEVER forget. Have a sweet time, Laurie!

Laura, it was exactly the car he was looking for, parked a couple of spots over from mine and it had a big red bow on it. My brother Mike said, "Isn't that the kind of car you want?". My son knows us so well that he figured it out. I love that I got a picture of him just as he made the discovery.

Zoe, he's my only child so I do spoil him a bit. My brother Mike is my cohort in crime in all of this.

Mary, I'm the lucky one. He's a sweet, wonderful guy. Wait until you see what he got me for Christmas! I cried for an hour over it.

GASP! What a Christmas gift! He looks great sitting in it, and you both look great hugging each other.

Was his airline ticket one-way? Did he have a clue you were getting this for him?

Unbelievable. Hope the visit was everything you wanted it to be.

dmmgmfm said...

Bonita, it was the best Christmas we've had since my mom passed away.

WW, The ticket was round-trip, so I lost a little money there. It was worth it though.

He knew we were going to try to make a deal on a vehicle, but he had no idea that the SUV of his dreams would be waiting for him when he arrived.

The visit was all I hoped for and more. We had time to visit, take long walks, see the extended family and tour in the new vehicle.

I have to admit to being a bit "blue" now that it's all over. But that will pass and I'm planning a trip to Colorado to see him in April or early May, so I have something to look forward to!

WOW!!!! I'm stunned!!! I love love love the surprise...and I love that WOLF loves a sunset ORANGE Element....what a stud.

Isn't there just something magical about giving someone the PERFECT gift....especially your child.

Awwwwwwwwwww, Laurie....that's the best!!!

dmmgmfm said...

Kristen, he's a super happy Wolf, for sure. He's driving home right now and Wyoming roads are iffy at best. I am sooooo glad he's got a safe, reliable, 4 wheel drive vehicle for the trip.

Though of course I'm still worrying a bit.

Laurie:

The best of feelings -- life's most memorable moments -- always leave a blue feeling.

I think it's just a mourning process but it ends up imprinting those feelings in us forever.

It sounds like it was a fantastic time, a watershed moment and event, that has filled your heart.

Smiles and hugs for you and him.

dmmgmfm said...

WW, I never thought about it that way, but you’re absolutely right. How did you get so smart?

WithinWithout said...

Just think about it, Laurie.

You've been waiting, waiting, waiting to see him, you and he were filled with joy...

When we're so filled with love like that, we don't want it to end. But it has to, at least temporarily.

It's like for a kid when Christmas comes and goes, I'm guessing like a mom who gives birth and then has post-partum depression, like the summer becoming winter...

Great highs are what we live for, but it can't be that way forever. We just have to know it's going to happen again.

That's what brings us back from blue, I figure.

dmmgmfm said...

It’s true. I spent every waking moment (and quite a few I should have spent sleeping) getting ready for the holiday. I made arrangements to buy the Element, and worked until the wee hours on my other super secret Christmas project (which I will blog about later after I’ve gotten some rest). When I wasn’t preparing for it, I was thinking about it and anticipating seeing his face when he realized that his dream had come true.

Then the time came and he stepped off that plane and back into my life. It was all I ever hoped for and so much more, but it passed so quickly, and in the blink of an eye, he was gone. Back to his life, where I know he belongs.

But you are right. The high can’t last forever, but it will happen again. I’m planning an extended visit to Denver in April or May!

Wonderful photo story! It gave me, as a women I new in Germany said, “duck pimples.”

Love and hugs to all of you!

dmmgmfm said...

Thank you Nick. It was a heart warming weekend and I am happy and relieved that he has a safe, reliable vehicle.

Joe Masse said...

Ever notice how certain colors epitomize certain cars? The Element was made for that color.

dmmgmfm said...

Joe, I agree. It was exactly the color he wanted. I'm so glad it was available in our limited market.

Squirl said...

Wow, what a nice present. But, like you said, it's good for you, too, as he'll be driving in a safer vehicle.

dmmgmfm said...

Squirl, exactly! I feel like a huge weight has been lifted.
