In Our Hearts

It's fast approaching Christmas, and I am really looking forward to seeing most of my favorite people in the world, all together in the same room. My dad will be there. He's not as young as he is in the picture, but he's still just as handsome.

My brother Mike will be there. The picture above was taken in 1985. Every year my mom and I bought Nels and Mike matching shirts. You have no idea how hard it was to find them some years, but we did. Every year!

God and Mother Nature willing, my son will be there. He flies out Friday morning, so please cross your fingers, pray, or light a candle that he makes it safely.

Uncle John will be there. As long as I can remember, he's spent the holidays with us. He's a wonderful man and it will be pure joy to spend time with him again.

Our neighbor Lois will be there. She's lived next door to us for as long as I can remember. It wouldn't be Christmas without her.

There is one person who will be noticeably absent. My mom. She won't be with us physically, but she will be there, in our hearts.

Daughter, Thank you T, prayers are always welcome.

Mary, It's a hard adjustment, my thoughts are with you. My family is awesome, it will be a lot of fun.

So, you're the one responsible for Jack Frost nipping at my nose?

Bonita, you are so right. I am getting almost giddy with excitement here. (I never thought I'd use the word giddy in a sentence!)

AC, that would be me, sorry. It's worth it to see me happy though, isn't it? ;-)

Just so sweet, Laurie. It made me homesick for those Christmases of years past. Isn't it something how those snapshots taken long ago have become precious beyond measure?

Merry Christmas! - May all your spirits be bright with the love you share.

I like Lois, and the concept of her. We have a Lois in our family too, named Richard.

Cathy, you're right, the old photos become more and more precious as I grow older. Thanks for the warm Christmas wishes.

Ur-spo, I like that you have a Richard. :-)

Damn! He was smokin'!!! I realize that's probably the most inappropriate thing to say, but I couldn't help myself.

Jen, I'm gettin so excited I can hardly stand it.

Laura, thanks for the good weather wishes. There's a huge surprise in store for my son...so decent weather would be much appreciated. *more on this later...after Christmas*

Courtney, dad was a good lookin' young man, wasn't he? All my friends had crushes on him...they thought he looked like James Arness (Matt Dillon) of Gunsmoke fame. :-D

I had to look up James Arness, but yeah, he does, doesn't he? :)

I always thought so Courtney. I used to love Gunsmoke too and not just because the leading man resembled my dad.

What a lovely collection of memories. Funny how Christmas always has a mixture of happy and sad. I hope you have a really wonderful day with your loved ones.

Love the pictures! Is it me or does your son have your father's eyes?

So happy for you, enjoy your Holidays!

It took me a second to figure out this post. But what a wonderful, really wonderful time you will have. I really enjoyed the photos.

Carol, you are right, it is a mixture, but I'll take the bitter with the sweet. :-)

Mslittlepea, my son's eyes are green, while dad's are sky blue. Other than that they are very much alike.

Potato print, I should have prefaced it or linked to a previous post to clarify! Glad you liked the photos.

Great post Laurie. I'm a bit behind and am trying to catch up, but the pix are great...

It's a beautiful, soulful salute to your loved ones.
